Industrial Coatings FAQ’s
Q: What is the difference between industrial coatings and standard paint?
Industrial coatings are engineered protective systems, not decorative paint. They defend steel, concrete and other substrates against corrosion, chemical exposure, abrasion, and extreme temperatures, and they require controlled surface preparation to bond correctly. Long Painting is QP1 and QP2 certified and applies coating systems from manufacturers including Tnemec, Sherwin Williams, Rodda, Carboline, and others, selected for the specific environment and substrate.
Q: How much does industrial painting cost per square foot?
Industrial painting is quoted per project rather than a single per-square-foot rate, because the cost is driven by surface preparation, the coating system specified, containment requirements, height and access, and facility downtime. A simple recoat sits at the low end, while abrasive blasting and multi-coat systems on structural steel cost more. Long Painting provides a written estimate after assessing the facility.
Q: How often should a manufacturing facility be repainted?
Most manufacturing and industrial facilities recoat high-wear and corrosion-prone surfaces every 5 to 10 years, though the interval depends on the coating system, the operating environment, and exposure to chemicals or moisture. Facilities in marine or high-humidity settings often need shorter cycles. A coating inspection identifies failing areas before corrosion spreads, which is far cheaper than a full re-blast and recoat.
Q: Do you handle surface preparation?
Yes, and it is the most important step. Long Painting performs surface preparation including abrasive blasting, power tool cleaning, and solvent cleaning to the standard the coating system requires. The company employs NACE Certified Inspectors and follows SSPC and AMPP surface preparation standards because a coating is only as durable as the prep beneath it.
Q: What industries and facilities do you serve?
Long Painting coats manufacturing plants, warehouses and distribution centers, water and wastewater infrastructure, bridges and pipelines, water and petroleum tanks, hydroelectric facilities, pulp and paper mills, stadiums, aircraft hangars, food and beverage facilities, and marine structures. Notable projects include the Golden Gate Bridge, Beverly Park Tank, and the Space Needle.
Q: Can you work around our production schedule and minimize downtime?
Yes. Long Painting plans industrial projects around production windows, shutdowns, and shift schedules, using containment and phased work so coating happens without stopping the whole facility. The company offers 24-hour emergency service and deep manpower resources to meet aggressive timelines.
