Meet Michael Jones, Estimator

Michael Jones in his office

Michael Jones, a longtime Long Painting Company team member, had a brief stint with the company in 1994 as a sandblaster/Industrial Painter

Starting in 1986, Michael has worked for a variety of painting companies. He has steadily increased his painting industry skills and knowledge, working both in the commercial and industrial arenas.

After years of working on a myriad of projects, ranging from schools, to churches, to bridges, ships, and wastewater treatment plants, and in various capacities—worker, lead, and foreman—he decided to start a small, but successful business.

After 9 years he decided to close up shop and return to the Long Painting fold, and was welcomed back with familiar faces and open arms.

With a background working for small, family run businesses, Michael expressed concern about “just being a number at this large, new workplace” when he started with Long Painting. Upon reflecting on his career, he remarked “Long is a great place to work, very professional, and I definitely learned that the grass isn’t necessarily greener on the other side of the fence as a small business owner.”

A lifetime learner, Michael has earned a variety of certifications from both inside and out of the painting industry. These include SSPC’s Coatings application specialist, Protective Coatings Inspector level 3, and PMI’s coveted Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Always driven to new challenges, Michael moved from the world of field foreman to that of estimator. “It was a bold but welcomed and timely move,” he remarked. “I’m constantly challenged, and I really enjoy it. The scale and complexity of work that Long Painting Company engages in requires an incredible amount of planning and management.”

Michael and his wife Sonia, are the proud parents of two young men, and are looking forward to their 21 st anniversary this summer. In his spare time, Michael enjoys hiking, sea kayaking, motorcycle restoring and riding, and gun building.
