SAFETY DEFINITIONS

Recordable Injury
A work-related injury or illness that causes one of the following conditions:

  1. death
  2. loss of consciousness
  3. days away from work
  4. restricted work or job transfer
  5. medical treatment beyond first aid

Recordable Frequency Rate
The number of recordable injuries and illnesses occurring among a given number of full-time workers (usually 100) over a given period of time (usually 1 year). Long Painting’s goal is less than 2.00.

Lost Time Frequency Rate
The number of lost time injuries and illnesses occurring among a given number of full-time workers (usually 100) over a given period of time (usually 1 year). Long Painting’s goal is less than 1.00.

Lost Time Cases
When an injury or illness causes a worker to be away from work for one day

Severity Rate
A number determined by using a formula established by OSHA. It includes the total number of lost days during one year by all injured employees in relationship to the total number of hours worked by all employees.
