    Safety Director

    The Safety Director provides leadership and control of all strategic and day-to-day aspects of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) considerations of all employees at Long Painting Company (LPC). It is the job of the Safety Director to develop a positive safety culture and team atmosphere to meet company goals.

    Responsibilities include developing, implementing and leading the company’s safety initiatives and safety loss control programs to assure regulatory compliance and construction standards.

    This leader exhibits an unwavering commitment to safety and embodies the leadership qualities necessary to develop and fulfill our corporate commitment to send our employees home safely every day. Position reports directly to the President.

    Long Painting has been in business for 50 years and is one of the most respected painting contractors in the nation. We provide real, long-lasting solutions for the most complex commercial and industrial coating projects. Based out of Kent, Washington, we primarily work in the Northwest, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, and Northern California. LPC employs up to 350 employees during peak months and typically conducts 25-40 projects at once.

    LPC is self-insured for workers’ compensation in most states. In 2016, LPC recorded an industry leading low EMR and time loss rate.

     

    DAILY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Conduct regular project site visits and audits for regulatory compliance.
    • Work with on-site supervision to correct items that require corrective action or enhancement to increase safety.
    • Follow up on any corrective measures to ensure completion.
    • Communicate with client safety representatives during site visits. 20 to 25% of the time is spent in the field.
    • Develop, implement, and verify compliance with federal, state, local, and LPC requirements.
    • Coordinate information requests, inspections, and audits regarding EHS; prepare and submit routine compliance reports to agencies and clients.
    • Review proposed regulatory changes.
    • Evaluate and advise impact of proposed regulations on projects and operating locations.
    • Facilitate implementation of new regulations as necessary with production personnel.
    • Develop project audit protocols.
    • Perform annual site audits; make recommendations to management.
    • Review project environmental inspections, training and documentation ensuring that they comply with company policies.
    • Develop and present EHS-related training for all personnel. Benchmark and improve safety training programs to ensure regulatory compliance.
    • Evaluate training compliance per regulatory mandates. Topics include, but not limited to, First aid/CPR, Blood Lead Testing, Respirator fit- testing, and Audiometric testing.
    • Train field personnel on local environmental rules and regulations.
    • Manage all workplace incidents and workers compensation claims. Maintain self-insured status and low EMR rates.
    • Facilitate investigations for all incidents and oversee documentation.
    • Oversee all EHS-related record keeping to include workers compensation, training, and medical documentation.
    • Ensure that all aspects of required medical protocol are followed. This includes blood lead testing, audiometric and respiratory fit-testing.
    • Oversee the chemical hygiene program and acquisition of product Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
    • Provide guidance and leadership for project managers, superintendents, foremen, estimators, and all other team members.
    • Quickly respond to time-sensitive requests for safety support.
    • Lead and support the LPC Accident Prevention Program to continue a positive effect on the safety of all employees.

     

    CRITICAL SKILLS:

    • Must have excellent leadership, interpersonal, team-building and influencing skills.
    • Simultaneously handle a variety of tasks and able to prioritize work in order to deadlines.
    • Effectively communicate (written and oral) with, various levels of management, craft workers, clients, and government agencies; proficient in in standard MS Office applications.
    • Demonstrate strong logical thinking and computational skills in order to ensure compliance.
    • Lead meetings and give presentations to various sized groups of people at different echelons; be knowledgeable while being personable and approachable to all levels of personnel.

     

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • Four year degree, EHS related 7-10 years’ experience in the construction industry; previous experience in Safety Management is preferred.
    • Pass background check to get into client facilities, military installations, schools, or work sites.
    • Willing and able to travel (20 to 25%); incident response is necessary anytime, anywhere.

    Industrial Superintendent

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Oversee multiple painting crews performing multiple jobs throughout the Northwest specifically from Kent WA office location which predominantly represents the Seattle area. Jobs can range from $15k with 1-3 painters to over a million plus dollars with 6-20 painters. Leadership, technical field experience, and situational awareness are all pre-requisites for this position.

    Responsible for the training and safety of their crews. Ensures implementation and follow-up of site specific safety plans. Produce all safety and task plans before or during the job walk/rehearsal. Continually checks for safety throughout the course of the project. Works the foreman to ensure forms and site training is performed at the start and throughout the job.

    Develop and renew relationships with clients. Respond to customer complaints or questions in a timely manner; work with Project Manager to ensure communication between the Company and customer. Coordinate scheduling with subcontractors. Ensure Foremen are on task.

    Measure production and evaluate job progress including safety, quality, and costs. Monitor jobsite cleanliness. Maintain crews in size and skills appropriate to the projects. Ensure required project documentation is complete. Enforce standards of quality and professionalism to eliminate paint failure, rework, safety hazards, and loss of production.

    Prepare for and attend weekly Production Meetings and scheduled Safety/Foreman’s Meetings. Foster the next generation of leaders through the company’s mentoring program

    Some working experience in floor, tank, marine, and concrete coatings, surface preparation to include various blasting techniques, lead paint abatement, fireproofing, plural component, etc.

    Ability to read and understand plans, specifications and schematics to communicate with project managers and foremen in order to set goals, measure production, and maintain budget.

    Proven leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively work with multi-generation employees, other contractors on a shared worksite, and a wide variety of customers.

    Knowledgeable of local union rules and regulations.

    Familiar with SSPC requirements for maintaining QP1, QP2 and QP9 certifications, Understand NACE inspections. Ability to administer quality control for protective coating projects.

    Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Must be able to operate a smartphone in order to quickly process information. Familiarity with Spectrum and Hard Dollar software a plus.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT

    Office and job site. Must be able to work effectively outdoors in all conditions year round.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Estimator

    This position requires a highly motivated individual who possesses a comprehensive understanding and a proven track record in estimating and bidding painting projects, performing take-offs of existing buildings, understanding specifications, knowledge of material and labor costs, use of production rates, blue-print reading skills, and electronic bidding and take-off solutions.  Qualified applicants will have fundamental knowledge of industrial and commercial coatings and processes.  An education in construction management or engineering is a plus.

    Project Manager

    Long Painting looks for motivated Project Managers with previous experience in managing multiple projects and handling multiple subcontractors.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.

    Job duties include performing estimates and take-offs for multiple projects.  A Project Manager is responsible for all financial aspects of each project including costs, billings and collections; identifying and pricing of change orders and additional work authorizations; working with production team in measuring goals and costs in comparison to percentage complete and helping to identify efficiencies.
